About Therapy

What is therapy?

Time to focus on yourself.

Therapy is time set aside for you to determine your goals, concerns, fears, plans, and more. A therapist is present to help you reflect and hear yourself differently or more objectively, to find the answers you already have, and to help guide the therapeutic process. This process can be a life changing experience! Hopefully you can experience greater self understanding, increased reflective capacity, improved relationships with loved ones, and an enhanced sense of well-being. Sometimes therapy results in changes that you might not have expected or anticipated and there are times when it can be a painful process; many times people feel worse before they begin to feel better. However, eventually you should begin to see improvement and if not, you and your therapist will discuss other alternative treatments, or referrals to other practitioners who may help to meet your needs.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

EMDR is a therapeutic intervention created for trauma. The process involves bilateral stimulation in the form of eye movement, tapping, or the use of machinery to create physical stimulation. EMDR is not recommended for everyone, but has been demonstrated to be effective in as little as 8 sessions. EMDR helps to instill healthy coping skills, change thought patterns, and reduce trauma and anxiety responses to triggers.
